Academic Writing Retreats
You provide the location, we'll bring the inspiration...
Academic writing retreats provide a valuable space away from the infinite demands and distractions of the day-to-day working environment, to give new impetus and focus to scholarly projects. They can be tailored to different purposes, such as developing book proposals, articles, or funding applications. Structured exercises involving discussion in groups or pairs are designed to give shape to emerging ideas, and the opportunity to articulate and communicate these reciprocally provides an important stimulus and motivation for the processes of drafting and editing which follow. The sessions are designed to balance a sociable approach to writing rooted in communication and engagement, with the necessary time and space for individual reflection and writing. Feedback exchanged on work in progress is designed to ensure that a focus on the reading experience is integral to the act of writing.
